about

We start with a contemplative rubato piece, that Tim learned from Gheorgel Stan of Drăgănești-Vlașca. 'Doina of the earth' is the name he gave it, which seems much more evocative than the generic title 'Doina de jale' (sad doina) under which it was recorded by Gheorghe Zamfir. Zamfir's recording gained fame in the West after being used as the intro music for a BBC radio program 'the Light of Experience' in the 1970s.
We then throw some chili sauce on the contemplative stew and launch into one of the fastest types of Romanian dance, called 'brâu'. Tim learned the first fast melody from Gheorghe Rădulescu of Bucharest. Inevitably, gets faster and faster, finishing with a violin melody from the playing of Ion Stoican.
